Research Academy Ruhr on the move: Christiane Wüllner and Jörn Benzinger (RUB Research School) were part of a University Alliance Ruhr delegation and participated in this year’s GAIN conference in San Francisco from August 22 to 25.

The German Academic International Network (GAIN) organizes this annual conference to connect German postdoctoral and early career researchers currently living in the US with representatives from Germany’s scientific, political, and industrial landscape and inform them about funding opportunities, career options, and job prospective.

A major part of the program was a two-day Talent Fair where close to 700 early career researchers were able to learn about the manifold research possibilities at German universities. Christiane Wüllner also offered a workshop on the different paths to a German professorship, which was very well attended and received. Evening receptions of GAIN and the German Consul General as well as an alumni evening organized by the UA Ruhr Office New York offered many opportunities to network and complemented the successful visit.

In addition to the team from Research Academy Ruhr, Prof. Dr. Alexander Probst (University of Duisburg-Essen) was invited to GAIN to talk at a panel and workshop about his experiences as a successful returnee.

The next GAIN conference will be in Boston, MA, in fall 2020. More information at
